More on faceted navigation (looking for an alternative to Siderean Seamark)

During the last days I did get some feedback, as requested, that my shortlist of faceted navigation tools in Looking for an alternative to Siderean Seamark was not complete.

That's correct.

In the area of search engines there are indeed several powerful offerings:
  • the open source solution Solr Apache, which is used as component within one of our shortlist contenders conStruct
  • all the enterprise search vendors, such as Fast
  • Endeca, the perceived market leader in this field of "Guided Navigation"
  • Attivio, one of the new strong contenders in this space, providing FacetFinder, which automatically and dynamically creates navigation off of all forms of content.
And also some CMS's come with faceted browsing built-in:
  • Daisy
  • Hippo
  • and surely many others I'm not aware of.
The reason why those were not retained in our shortlist, is that in our case, the faceted navigation needs to be done above a triple store containing tons of RDF triples on which inferencing needs to happen and taking all types of relationships into account.

Hence that only solutions with an RDF backend are listed.
